OneShared.World Campaign: #WASHPAP2030

Tell G20 leaders: Make sure every person on Earth has access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential protection from deadly pandemics by 2030

#WASHPAP2030

Covid-19 is wreaking havoc across the globe and the world’s most vulnerable populations are suffering. Three billion people don’t have access to basic hand-washing facilities and unprepared public health systems are being overburdened by new Covid-19 cases. Greater investment in safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential protection from deadly pandemics — WASHPAP — for everyone on Earth is the smartest investment we can make in protecting the planet from this and future pandemics. But until now, we have lacked a robust strategy and the collective will to make it happen.

G20 leaders, representing 84% of the world’s wealth, are holding their virtual summit on November 21-22, hosted by Saudi Arabia. This summit presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to effect lasting change and build a safer world for everyone. OneShared.World’s new report shows provides a roadmap to get there: A Challenge to G20 Leaders: Building a Safer World for All by Ensuring Universal Access to Safe Water, Basic Sanitation and Hygiene, and Essential Pandemic Protection by 2030.

Signing this petition will help persuade Saudi Arabia to reflect this WASHPAP-for-all commitment in the G20 leaders’ official Summit Communiqué, due to be released on November 22. By declaring your support and spreading the word, you’ll also send another powerful message: When we work together to solve humanity’s greatest challenges — from pandemics to climate change to systemic inequality — we build a better future for everyone. After you sign, join us in tweeting this powerful message for change at G20 leaders. #WASHPAP2030 #riseorfalltogether #OneSharedWorld

VIDEO DIRECTIONS

  • Watch the video above to see the idea: you are ‘passing’ along a glass of water to the next person in the video — a metaphor for sharing the WASHPAP message with the rest of world.
  • Decide what you want to say — see examples below — limit it to 5-20 seconds maximum.
  • Orientation of your camera should be vertical.
  • Pass a clear glass of water from your left to your right.
  • The glass should off screen at the beginning and end:
    1. Before beginning to speak bring the water in from off-screen left
    2. Hold the glass in front of you as you speak in support for WASHPAP
    3. When you are done speaking, ‘hand’ the glass off-screen to your right

SHARE YOUR VIDEO AND TAG 3 FRIENDS

Earlier this year, OneShared.World released an important new publication, Rise or Fall Together: Addressing the Emergency Needs of the World’s Most Vulnerable Populations in this Time of Global Crisis. In the report, OneShared.World called for massive expansion of efforts to meet the emergency needs of vulnerable populations as an act of global self-preservation—looking to make sure that every person on Earth has access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential protection from deadly pandemics (WASHPAP) by 2030.

Building on this report, OneShared.World launched a campaign calling on the global leaders at the G20 summit in November to unite behind the plan of ensuring WASHPAP for every person on the planet. This campaign involves strategic outreach to G20 governments, building a coalition of WASHPAP organizations, and partnering with broader advocacy organizations, all supporting a specific plan of action for achieving the WASPHAP 2030 goal.

To G20 leaders at the Riyadh Summit:

As the devastating pandemic wreaks havoc around the globe, the world’s most vulnerable populations are suffering the most. Meeting their urgent needs is not just the right thing to do — it’s the smartest investment we can make to build a safer world for everyone.

If we fail to act now and allow the pandemic to spread and mutate, the health and economic stability of all people everywhere will be threatened.

  • 3 billion people across the globe don’t have basic hand-washing facilities
  • 2.2 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water
  • 4.2 billion people do not have safely managed sanitation services like toilets or latrines
  • Over 800,000 children die each year from unsafe drinking water, inadequate availability of water for hygiene, and lack of access to sanitation.

We urge you to commit to ensure that everyone on Earth has access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential protection from deadly pandemics by 2030.

If the virus is teaching us anything, it is that we rise or fall together. I urge you to take action now — as an act of global self-preservation.

Signed,
