To G20 leaders at the Riyadh Summit:
As the devastating pandemic wreaks havoc around the globe, the world’s most vulnerable populations are suffering the most. Meeting their urgent needs is not just the right thing to do — it’s the smartest investment we can make to build a safer world for everyone.
If we fail to act now and allow the pandemic to spread and mutate, the health and economic stability of all people everywhere will be threatened.
- 3 billion people across the globe don’t have basic hand-washing facilities
- 2.2 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water
- 4.2 billion people do not have safely managed sanitation services like toilets or latrines
- Over 800,000 children die each year from unsafe drinking water, inadequate availability of water for hygiene, and lack of access to sanitation.
We urge you to commit to ensure that everyone on Earth has access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential protection from deadly pandemics by 2030.
If the virus is teaching us anything, it is that we rise or fall together. I urge you to take action now — as an act of global self-preservation.
