In partnership with the the International Houses in Berkeley, Chicago, London, New York
Next Generation Leaders: Cultivating a Culture of Peace
November 18 2025, 3:30 p.m. EST

As we celebrated International Education Week, we heard from young leaders who led projects this summer in Brazil, Ghana, India, Kenya, & Rwanda.

“Eighty years ago, from the ashes of war, the world planted a seed of hope. One Charter, one vision, one promise: that peace is possible when humanity stands together.”

—Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, 26 June 2025

In that spirit, we held a conversation with young global leaders who undertook Projects for Peace this summer, addressing skills training for women entrepreneurs in Kenya, an inter-generational food project in Brazil, fighting genocide ideology in Rwanda, peace dialogues and public health in Ghana, and educational workshops on animal welfare and environmentalism in India. The conversation was moderated by Betsy Vegso, Director, Projects for Peace.

Panel:
  • Ahmed Abubakari: International House Berkeley; Projects for Peace title: Cervicare for Peace; A path to health and lasting unity for Kaya Yei in Ghana.
  • Srikanth Chandar: International House New York; Projects for Peace title: Educational Workshops on Animal Welfare and Environmentalism (India).
  • Anando Ghosh: PhD in Anthropology, Health, and Environment at UCL, UK; International Students House, London; Projects for Peace title: Advancing Environmental Justice through an Intergenerational Citizen Science (Brazil).
